In all I’ll be passing through 10 countries and one French overseas department; between them they make up some 30,000 km of stunning South American coastline.

*Note: I’ve gleaned most of the statistics from various sources on the internet. Accurate information regarding coastlines was particularly difficult to come by – Richardson’s Paradox in action, perhaps – and I got most of my figures (and the maps) from the CIA World Factbook. I’m not convinced that it’s entirely accurate – can Ecuador’s water frontage really only be 177km shorter than Peru’s?
